Do you wanna be hip?

So, if you really are desperately in need of an answer about the age-old dispute Punk or Pokemones, you should refer to Hipster Runoff, being apparently the latest web-phenomenon. Obviously if you tend to crown phenomenon what makes the Village Voice headlines. Carles, supposedly running the blog, is described as a mysterious and quite possibly messianic figure whose bizarre mixture of puerile humor, savage satire, goofy naïveté, and profound cultural critique has left everyone enthralled, terrorized, and completely confused. Blimey. Neither Al Zawahiri himself got such press.

Reading here and there there's some seriously entertaining stuff, nonetheless. Like the in-depth analysis of lifestyle brands (with his personal top ten) and a careful satire of Tv On The Radio (and mostlty the part, for those out there who are not so enthrilled by the perspective of reading the whole rambling, where the guy claims that part of the reasons why TVOTR are so hip you also can’t underestimate the opportunity for white people to ‘like/appreciate’ music that ‘black people’ make, particularly when it doesn’t sound like music that ‘black people traditionally make, but since black people are making it, u can still kinda hear the authentic-aesthetic that only artists whose ancestors are [via Africa] can generate (kinda like Jazz/afro beat/etc.).

But even the comments are worth reading. So, just to be honest and sing the whole song, I must confess that Hipsterrunoff got his place in my Gurus bookmark folders, right below Rhodri's. Who by the way demonstrated himself as blasè as always:

Me: Rhodri, do you happen to know hipsterrunoff.com? If not maybe you'd find it interesting, it's sardonic like you but in a more flamboyant, less subtle, fully american way. I'd say he's the Liberace of blogging while you are the Tony Bennett.

Rhodri: Do you mean that I'm suave, but he has a candelabra on his piano?

Exactly.
